In 13 years of ministry in professional baseball, I have known no one in leadership more kingdom focused than Chris Bando and Mark Dewey. They are humble, winsome and relatable servants of Christ, rock solid in the Word and highly principled. Mark Dewey was my first pitching coach in the minor leagues. We spent several seasons working with one another on the finer points of America’s Pastime in the Florida heat. During that time I was constantly awestruck at Mark’s radical service to God in everything he does. He lives the Word and casts off worldliness better than any servant of the Lord I’ve ever had the pleasure to meet. In a time of lip service, soft soap, and hypocrisy, Mark Dewey is holding the line for Christ in an unbending manner; he has my highest endorsement.

For over 25 years it has been my privilege to call Chris and Mark not only my brothers in Christ, but also my friends. Chris has been a tremendously positive mentor and godly influence in my life, as well as an excellent teacher of the Word of God. I was fortunate enough to be a teammate of Mark’s with the San Francisco Giants as a young Christian. I admired the humility and grace that he displayed each day among his teammates, as well as the respect he was given when he shared boldly and confidently the Word of Life to those around him. ... My gratitude for the God honoring impact of these men is beyond measure.

Mark Dewey was a model and mentor to our entire pitching staff, as he taught and challenged us to live with wisdom and integrity. He exemplified and radiated Christ, proving to be a powerful, invaluable presence on and off the field. He helped me become a better pitcher but, more importantly, a better man by challenging, supporting, and encouraging my continued growth in my relationship with the Lord.

Down and out after a disappointing junior college season, I was recruited to San Diego Christian. CB guided me through the next two years with a positive, Christlike spirit which helped me get drafted and, more importantly, taught me so much about how to live righteously. Now, as I enter my 7th year of professional ball, CB continues to mentor me and teach me how to live as a servant of Jesus. I am forever grateful for CB’s influence in my life.

I have been acquainted with Chris and Mark since the 1990’s and can say, without reservation, that they are two of the most God-fearing men I have ever known. Their character is Christ-driven and their ability to communicate God’s Word is a reflection of IITimothy 2:15. Their effectiveness in speaking into the lives of those in professional baseball has truly blessed many, and many have been lead to the Lord through their efforts. They both have spoken into my life and their friendship and brotherhood have been high among the many blessings God has granted me. I would not hesitate to entrust anyone I hold dear in my life to the teaching and leadership of these two fine men.

CB and I met in the early 1990’s when he was managing the Stockton Ports and our families resided in the same Stockton neighborhood. Immediately, it was clear to me that CB was distinctively different, a former MLB athlete who cared deeply for others and lived to serve the Lord Jesus.

CB’s managing and coaching career put him on the move and we communicated intermittently over the years. In the middle of the pandemic, CB invited me to participate in a Zoom Bible Study led by His DCM ministry partner, Mark Dewey. For two years now, I have cherished the rich, insightful, interactive weekly teachings, while also enjoying the many other spiritual resources produced by DCM. CB and Mark have been precious blessings in my Christian life.

I joined Mark and CB's Monday afternoon Bible Study about two years ago. I have learned so much about God's Word, His love for us and how we should walk with our Lord daily through Mark's teaching. He and CB "walk the talk.” There are a lot of guys who "talk a good game" but fall short on execution. Mark and CB live what they preach. Matthew 5:16 sums up their lives "...let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Each week when I get off our Zoom call, I just shake my head in amazement over Mark's knowledge of God's Word and his ability to put the lesson into perspective for daily living. I can say with all honesty that my Monday afternoon Zoom call with Mark and CB is truly the highlight of my week.
